Baths Buying Guide

Wondering which bath is right for your home and family? Our buying guide will guide you through the process to help ensure you select a bath that meets your needs—and wants.

Kohler offers bathtubs made from acrylic, enameled cast iron, and Lithocast® materials. Acrylic is lightweight, affordable, and easy to maintain. Enameled cast iron is highly durable and retains heat well. Lithocast, a composite material, is lightweight and designed to resemble natural stone.

Kohler’s range of bathtubs are designed to fit every space and style. Choose from:

  • Alcove: fits into a three-wall enclosure
  • Freestanding: stands alone and can be placed anywhere
  • Drop-in: installed into a prebuilt platform
  • Corner: fits into the corner of a bathroom, saving space
  • Soaking: deeper than standard tubs for full-body immersion

The standard size of a bathtub is typically 60 inches long, 30 to 32 inches wide, and about 14 to 20 inches deep. However, sizes can vary based on the type of tub you choose. For example, alcove tubs are typically smaller in size to fit into more compact spaces.

While professional installation is recommended for the best results, the general steps for installing a bathtub are:

  1. Remove the old tub.
  2. Prepare the area by ensuring proper plumbing and support.
  3. Position the new tub and connect the drain and overflow.
  4. Secure the tub into place (varies depending on type of bathtub).
  5. Install the faucet and fixtures.
  6. Seal the edges with caulk.
