Known for its cutting-edge products and technology, Kohler has always been at the forefront and has consistently redefined good design. With Kohler Bold Design Awards, the brand aims to push the design envelope and recognize people and firms that echo the same philosophy. Instituted in 2016 as a biennial event, this is the second edition of these much awaited awards that promise to celebrate and accolade the best of Indian design and architecture.
The stellar jury comprises of eminent Indian and international names like – Abha Narain Lambah, Chitra Vishwanth, Fabio Novembre, Jimmy Lim, Kamal Malik, Pankaj Vir Gupta, Paola Navone, Shahrukh Mistry and Sunita Kohli.
Broadly spread over 11 categories, the awards are categorized as:
The Extraordinaries: This category celebrates individuals, who are leaders of innovation and are at the forefront of changing the way we think about design. (Subcategories: Commercial, Hospitality, Residential, Public Institution and Retail)
The Visionaries: Honoring architects who are looking at the future of design, this category applauds the ones who are taking bold strides while also making a positive impact on the environment. (Subcategories: Rebuild & Revive, Community Harmony, The Big Idea, Environmental Conscious and Material & Skill Adaption)
The John Michael Kohler Life Time Achievement Award: This Special Merit Award is presented by vote of the distinguished Jury and is not open for public nomination. However, it aims to recognize a noteworthy personality from the design community, who has left an indelible mark with his/her work.
The winners of Kohler Bold Design Awards become the proud recipients of one-of-a-kind Golden Pencil Trophy, which is a magnificent combination of steel and gold. And while it may not draw on paper it certainly draws the line between the ordinary and the sublime. Designed to celebrate the vision of the brilliant few designers and architects who see more in a brick than just a brick, the Golden Pencil seeks to identify the finest Indian talent which has redefined how one marvels at spaces.
